114th Birthday of Major Dhyan Chand, called Hockey Magician.


Today is National Sports Day. It was decided to celebrate National Sports Day to enhance India's sports culture, encourage sports and raise awareness in the corners of the country. Today marks the 114th anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the greatest sportsman in hockey.

This great hockey player's birthday is celebrated annually as a sports day in the country. Major Dhyan Chand is still honored as the greatest player in the hockey world.

● Major DhyanChand Special 

  • Major DhyanChand's original name was Dhyan Singh. But he was practicing hockey until late at night. Later, his close friends added the word 'Chand' to Dhan Singh's name. From then on it became known as Dhyanchand.
  • Dhyan Chand's education was only up to 6th. In fact, Dhyan Chand started playing hockey after joining the army. Before that he had no special experience of hockey.
  • The Hockey Federation was facing financial crisis. Even without such pressure, Dhyan Chand led the Indian team and won the country's first Olympic medal. After that, the Indian hockey team dominated in two consecutive Olympics.
  • Dhyan Chand's game had won the hearts of all. Dhyan Chand was the only Indian to score 192 goals in a total of 21 matches during the 1926 tour of New Zealand.
  • Major Dhyan Chand represented the Indian team in hockey in three consecutive Olympic Games 1928, 1932 and 1936 and won there.
  • Germany's dictator Adolf Hitler became a fan after watching Dhyanchand play in the 1936 Olympic Games between India and Germany. Because of this, Hitler had offered him a German citizenship as well as a promotion to the rank of Major and Colonel in the English Indian Army, but he was politely rejected by patriotic and self-respecting Dhyan Chand.
  • Dhyan Chand played his last international match in 1948. The Government of India honored Dhyan Chand with the Padma Bhushan in 1956. Major Dhyan Chand died on December 3, 1979.
