Mahendra Singh Dhoni celebrated his 39th birthday on Tuesday (July 07) at his home in Ranchi.

The veteran wicket-keeper batsman's future has been a topic of intense debate in the Indian cricket fraternity as he has not played for India since July last year.

Dhoni had initially opted for a two-month-long sabbatical post the World Cup which ended up getting extended till this year as the former Indian captain stayed away from all forms of cricket.

However, Dhoni is not planning to retire anytime soon and he is determined to do well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with his side Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Dhoni's childhood friend and manager Mihir Diwakar said Dhoni is not thinking about retirement and was looking forward to doing well in the IPL, which currently stands postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Being friends, we don’t talk about his cricket. But looking at him, he’s not all thinking about retirement," Diwakar was quoted as saying by PTI.

“He is very determined to play the IPL. He has worked really hard for this. If you remember he was there in Chennai one month in advance before everything was shut down,” he added.
